Tier 2 and beyond cities contributed to more than 70 per cent of the premium smartphone sales
Highlighting that its month-long Amazon Great Indian Festival (AGIF) 2024 has been the biggest sales event for the company, Amazon India disclosed that it witnessed 140 crore customer visits during the AGIF. The company added that more than 85 per cent of the customers were from non-metro cities. The online marketplace delivered over three crore products to prime members across India within the same or the next day, marking a 26 per cent increase from last year.
As per the data from the company, 5G smartphones saw a boost in the budget segment (less than Rs 10,000) with more than one-third volume share driven by a wide selection from brands like Realme, iQOO and others. During the festive period, customers shopped four times (4X) more for homecare products and a three-time spike in gift packs, sweets, skincare and dietary supplements (Year-on-Year).
The premium smartphone segment (more than Rs 30,000) saw the highest YoY growth (among all price segments, in volume) driven by a wide range of selections, great deals and payment options. Sales for premium soundbars grew by up to 40 per cent YoY.

As far as the participation from the non-metro cities is concerned, Tier 2 and beyond cities contributed to more than 70 per cent of the premium smartphone sales. More than 50 per cent of TV purchases came from tier 2 and 3 cities. As per the data, more than 60 per cent of new Amazon customers from Tier 2 cities and below, shopped for fashion and beauty while more than 50 per cent of fashion and beauty orders came from Tier 2 and 3 cities.
AGIF ’24 saw over 70 per cent increase in sellers surpassing Rs 1 crore in sales compared to last year. Small and medium businesses, including women entrepreneurs, weavers, and artisans sold over 1,000 units every minute during the event. As per the company, more than 42,000 sellers experienced their highest-ever single-day sales during AGIF 2024. Sellers from India’s heartland took center stage, with around 70 per cent of participating sellers hailing from tier 2 and below cities.
