Media reports state that Flipkart was in talks with Biswas in 2024 when the former was exploring a potential acquisition of the startup
After months of talks with the firm, Dunzo Co-founder Kabeer Biswas has joined Flipkart to lead its quick commerce business ‘Minutes’, as per the media reports. After more than a year of tackling issues which arose from Dunzo not being able to raise capital to sustain the cash burn, the Co-founder of the Indian delivery startup has decided to move on.
Media reports state that Flipkart was in talks with Biswas in 2024 when the former was exploring a potential acquisition of the startup. However, the complications in the Reliance Retail-backed startup’s ownership made it difficult for the talks to materialise.
As Reliance Retail has written off its investment in Dunzo, reports state that some of the shareholders have not opposed the idea of Biswas moving on but the final call from Reliance Retail will be the key. As quick commerce is experiencing growth in recent quarters, the competition in the segment is intensifying.
While Zomato-owned Blinkit, Swiggy-owned Instamart and Zepto lead the race in the quick commerce segment, the new entrants are not shying away from joining them. With Amazon piloting their quick commerce services and Flipkart upping their game with ‘Minutes’, the race to tap the consumers in urban Indian cities is heating up.
