Tata Digital To Appoint An External CEO: Reports

Tata Group, CaratLane in valuation battle, deadlock could impact IPO plans

Reports note that the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will have a clear responsibility of streamlining operations, overhauling the organisation

As the company is grappling with scale-up challenges, Tata Digital is set to onboard an external Chief Executive Officer (CEO), as per media reports. This is going to the third chief to come on board since the platform’s inception in 2019.

The reports noted that the company’s business growth is getting hampered due to scale-up issues. Tata Digital’s former chief, Naveen Tahiliyani, moved on in July within a year of his term, with reports stating that the CEO’s exit was driven by concerns over the performance of the platform.

The incoming CEO will have a clear responsibility of streamlining operations, overhauling the organisation, the reports emphasised. The new top executive will also be infusing alignment across the group’s consumer digital portfolio. The new appointment would be mark a shift in Tata Digital’s approach of depending on internal leadership over the past few years, the reports explained.

The development comes on the back of a larger shakeup led by Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran, who has issued orders to fix delivery gaps and end strategic drift, as per the reports. To monitor verticals such as BigBasket, Tata Cliq and Croma, weekly reviews are being conducted with clear stance in case of non-performance.

On the other hand, a committee of senior Tata Digital CXOs has been overseeing day-to-day management and coordination across verticals. The reports highlighted that to bolster consumer business depth, Tata Sons has inducted Puneet Chhatwal and Tata Consumer CEO Sunil D’Souza to the Tata Digital’s board.
