North India experienced the highest sales growth at five per cent during the month, followed by a four per cent increase registered by West India
With categories like food, grocery and quick service restaurants reporting healthy upticks, the retail sector in the country has marked a four per cent year-on-year growth in February 2025, as per the 59th retail business survey by the Retailers Association of India (RAI).
North India experienced the highest sales growth at five per cent during the month, followed by a four per cent increase registered by west India. On the other hand, south India managed to register a growth of three per cent in February 2025 on a YoY basis and east India was the slowest performer with an uptick of two per cent during the same period.
“Retail performance in India shows a modest four per cent year-on-year gain for February 2025. Categories such as food and grocery, QSR, and consumer durables have reported specific upticks. Retailers are increasingly focused on protecting margins, with improved stock management becoming a clear priority. In the context of global tariff shifts and economic uncertainty, the sector is showing signs of steady adjustment rather than expansion,” said, RAI Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kumar Rajagopalan.
As far as the category-wise performance is concerned, RAI stated that the food and grocery segment emerged as the top performer with a growth of 11 per cent. Categories like quick service restaurants and consumer durables managed to witness growth of five per cent in February 2025 compared to the February 2024 period last year. RAI actively engages with all levels of government to support employment, promote retail investments, enhance consumer choice and strengthen industry competitiveness nationwide.
