The report states that the gross imports of gems and Jewellery also registered a dip of 11.96 per cent in 2024-25
India’s overall gross exports of Gems and Jewellery decreased to USD 28,500.08 million in the April 2024 to March 2025 period, as compared to USD 32,283.05 million during the same period a year ago, marking a decline of 11.72 per cent, as highlighted by a report.
As per the data from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), the gross imports of gems and Jewellery also registered a dip of 11.96 per cent in 2024-25 as it decreased to USD 19,610.97 million in the April 2024 to March 2025 period. The imports were at USD 22,276.23 million during the previous financial year.
In March 2025, the overall exports of gems and jewellery marked a 1.02 per cent increase on a YoY basis as it rose to USD 2,582.97 million. On the other hand, the overall gross imports of gems and jewellery registered a decline of 7.2 per cent during the month on a YoY basis.
In the cut and polished diamonds (CPD) category, the data revealed that the overall gross exports of CPD stood at USD 13,292 million in FY25, marking a decline of 16.75 per cent when compared with the same period a year ago. Similarly, the gross imports of cut and polished diamonds reported an even heavier decline of 36.6 per cent during the same period as it dipped to USD 1,211.66 million in FY25.
As far as the rough diamonds are concerned, the data highlighted a YoY decline of 24.27 per cent in gross imports of rough diamonds. The imports stood at USD 10,804.54 million in the April 2024 to March 2025 period.
While the provisional gross exports of polished lab-grown diamonds for March 2025 showed a growth of 6.64 per cent on-year, the exports marked a decline of 9.64 per cent in April 2024 to March 2025 period, as highlighted from the data.
On the other hand, the total gross export of gold jewellery marked a 27.27 per cent on-year growth in March 2025. However, exports of total gold jewellery in 2024-25 also declined by 0.11 per cent on a year-on-year basis.
