India Eyes Exporting 15-16 Mn AC Units In 4 Yrs: Report

India's 2023 Exports Inch Up 0.4%, Defying Global Uncertainties

The reports state that the country is eyeing to compete with China and Thailand, which dominate as big export hubs

Emphasising that the category has a huge potential to grow India’s electronics export value after smartphones, the government has asked the air-conditioner manufacturers to focus on achieving export of 15 to 16 million units in the next four years, as per the reports.

Since the boost provided to the industry through the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for ACs has not reflected in shipments to foreign countries, the government has urged the manufacturers to push exports on a bigger scale.

The reports added that the country is eyeing to compete with China and Thailand, which dominate as big export hubs. Currently, India exports around two million units. On the other hand, China clocked exports of 85 million units of ACs in 2024, as per the reports.

Aimed at providing further support, the industry has been asked to prepare a list of support measures it might need regarding exports, in addition to the current PLI scheme. A report on the disabilities in AC exports has also been requested by the Centre, which needs to be submitted in June, the media reports added.
