QSR Leads As Retail Sales Grow 4% YoY In April, Reveals Survey

India's Retail Market To See Steady Growth In 2024: CBRE Report

In terms of categories, quick service restaurants (QSR) registered the highest growth of 11 per cent

Pointing to a steady domestic demand, retail sales have managed to clock four per cent growth in April 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the 61st retail business survey by the Retailers Association of India (RAI). The survey highlights that the growth came at a time when global trade conditions remain unsettled.

The survey further reveals that north and west India experienced the highest year-on-year (YoY) sales growth at six per cent and five per cent, respectively. On the other hand, east and south India each recorded a two per cent increase during the stated period.

Retailers report that footfalls into stores are reducing. However, customers who come to the stores are buying with purpose and also are experiencing new product introductions,” stated Kumar Rajagopalan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of RAI.

Rajagopalan added that retailers who have innovative products or aspirational products are performing very well in the market. In terms of categories, quick service restaurants (QSR) registered the highest growth of 11 per cent, followed by food and grocery, which grew at six per cent. The survey also highlights a cautious but steady outlook among retailers, with no significant drops in consumer spending.
