Retail Inflation Moderates To 3.16% In April, Says Centre

India's Retail Inflation Dips To 4.85% In March

The Centre states that the food inflation in April 2025 was the lowest since October 2021

Led by a decline in the prices of vegetables, pulses and fruits, India’s consumer price index (CPI) based retail inflation eased further to 3.16 per cent in April 2025, a decline of 18 basis points (bps) in headline inflation of April in comparison to March 2025.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) highlighted that this is the lowest year-on-year (YoY) inflation since July 2019. The rural inflation declined to 2.92 per cent in April 2025 as compared to 3.25 per cent in March 2025.

The urban year-on-year inflation rate based on CPI slipped to 3.36 per cent in April 2025 from 3.43 per cent in March 2025. Food inflation also declined to 1.78 per cent during the previous month from 2.69 per cent in March 2025. Corresponding inflation rates for rural and urban were 1.85 per cent and 1.64 per cent, respectively.

The food inflation in April 2025 is the lowest since October 2021. The year-on-year housing inflation rate for the month of April 2025 is three per cent. The corresponding inflation rate for the month of March 2025 was 3.03 per cent.

The year-on-year education inflation rate for the month of April 2025 is 4.13 per cent. The corresponding inflation rate for the month of March 2025 was 3.98 per cent. It is combined education inflation for both the rural and urban sector, as per the ministry.
