BSE, NSE To Close On May 20 For Lok Sabha Election Voting

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed on May 20 in observance of the fifth voting phase for the Lok Sabha Election 2024 in Mumbai. This marks the second market holiday of the month, aligning with the seven-phase election schedule as all six seats in the city go to the polls.

Earlier this month, the markets were closed on May 1 for Maharashtra Day, celebrating the state’s formation on 1 May 1960, following the linguistic reorganisation of Indian states.

The Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra are divided into five phases. The first four phases occurred on April 19, April 26, May 7 and May 13. The final phase is scheduled for May 20, with vote counting set for June 4.

In addition to the stock exchanges, banks across Maharashtra will also be closed on May 20 due to the election. The phase includes voting in 13 out of the state’s 48 Lok Sabha constituencies, specifically Dhule, Dindori, Nashik, Kalyan, Palghar, Bhiwandi, Thane, Mumbai North, Mumbai North-West, Mumbai North-East, Mumbai North-Central, Mumbai South-Central and Mumbai South.

This closure ensures that citizens can participate in the electoral process, underscoring the significance of the Lok Sabha elections in shaping the country’s future.
