Soaring temperatures propel demand with expectations of 14 million units sold this year
The intense heatwave this year has sharply increased the demand for room air-conditioners in India, with an expected record annual sale of around 14 million units, as reported by the Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association (CEAMA).
CEAMA President Sunil Vachani told PTI that May saw record-breaking AC sales, with a projected 30-40 per cent growth in volume during the summer. The heat has made air-conditioners essential in urban households, further driven by energy-efficient models and investments in local manufacturing.
Major brands like Voltas, LG, and Haier have seen significant sales increases despite challenges in installation and inventory replenishment. The industry’s focus on indigenous manufacturing, supported by the PLI scheme, has been crucial in meeting rising demands.
