TVS Motor Expands EV Portfolio With Orbiter V1, BaaS Model

New entry-level EV priced from Rs 49,999 with BaaS aims to make urban electric mobility more accessible

TVS Motor Company has expanded its electric two-wheeler portfolio with the introduction of the TVS Orbiter V1, an entry-level electric scooter designed to make electric mobility more accessible to urban commuters. Alongside the new model, the company has also rolled out a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model across its EV portfolio, offering customers a flexible ownership structure that lowers upfront costs.

With the addition of the Orbiter V1 and the BaaS programme, TVS Motor said its electric scooter range will now start at Rs 49,999 (ex-showroom Delhi), inclusive of the government’s PM e‑Drive incentive. Customers opting to purchase the scooter without the battery subscription model can buy the Orbiter V1 at Rs 84,500 (ex-showroom Delhi).

The Orbiter V1 is powered by a 1.8 kWh battery and is positioned as a practical option for everyday city commuting. It delivers a certified IDC range of 86 km and supports 0–80 per cent charging in about two hours and 20 minutes. With this addition, the Orbiter lineup now includes two variants: the V1 with a 1.8 kWh battery and the Orbiter V2 with a 3.1 kWh battery, which was introduced earlier.

Designed with urban mobility in mind, the scooter features a front LED headlamp with visor, a coloured LCD digital cluster with incoming call display, and smartphone connectivity through a dedicated mobile app. It also offers safety and convenience functions such as crash and fall alerts, geo-fencing, anti-theft notifications, turn-by-turn navigation and over-the-air updates.

The scooter adopts a functional design philosophy aimed at daily usability. It includes an 845 mm long flat seat for rider and pillion comfort, a 290 mm straight-line footboard, and 34 litres of under-seat storage, which the company says can accommodate two helmets. Additional rider-assist features include hill-hold assist, cruise control, parking assist and dual ride modes — Eco and Power — with regenerative braking.

The newly introduced BaaS model separates the vehicle cost from the battery cost, allowing buyers to subscribe to battery usage instead of paying the full amount upfront. Under this model, TVS Motor offers flexible payment plans starting from Rs 862 per month, with extended warranty coverage of up to five years or 70,000 km included in the subscription tenure.

According to Gaurav Gupta, the launch strengthens the company’s EV lineup by providing a more accessible entry point for customers. He said the battery subscription model also reflects a shift in how consumers approach electric vehicle ownership by offering clearer visibility into the overall cost of using an EV.

As electric mobility adoption accelerates in India, TVS Motor said it aims to broaden access to everyday EV commuting through affordable products and flexible ownership options. The company believes that the combination of a lower entry price and subscription-based battery model could help expand electric scooter adoption among urban riders.
