Ganesh idols, modaks and festive décor emerged among the most-ordered items, while Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities recorded 8x sales growth during the festive period
Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations drove a sharp rise in festive shopping on Flipkart Minutes, with demand across categories including festive décor, puja essentials, ethnic wear, sweets and gifting growing 2.5 times during the festive period.
Wall decorations, altar cloths, chowki, bindi and deity dress were among the fastest-growing categories on the quick-commerce platform. Searches for chowki, pooja aasan cloth, Ganesh idols, dhoop and agarbatti, and boondi laddus also featured prominently on consumers’ festive shopping lists.
The shopping momentum was visible across both metropolitan and smaller cities. Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai led demand, while Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, including Patna, Lucknow and Guwahati, recorded an 8x increase in sales during the festive period.
Gen Z Embraces Digital-First Festive Shopping
Younger consumers also contributed significantly to the festive shopping surge, with Gen Z demand increasing threefold. Eco-friendly Ganesh idols, fruits, flowers, dry fruits and nuts were among the categories most purchased by this cohort, highlighting the growing role of digital platforms in helping consumers combine traditional celebrations with convenience.
Shopping behaviour also varied across the course of the celebrations. Orders for Ganesh idols increased fivefold, while demand for modaks rose fourfold, making both among the most ordered festive items on Flipkart Minutes.
The 6 am to 11 am period emerged as the busiest shopping window, indicating how quick commerce is increasingly being used to meet consumers’ requirements at different stages of festive celebrations.
Flipkart Minutes Curates Festive Essentials
Through its dedicated Ganesh Chaturthi store, Flipkart Minutes brought together modaks and sweets, flowers, fruits, puja essentials and festive décor, giving consumers access to a range of products for the celebrations through its quick-commerce platform.
The company also undertook a series of marketing activations across Mumbai around the festival. These included print campaigns tracing Bappa’s journey, a Mukh Darshan jacket innovation, a flower shower during Visarjan, a digital out-of-home installation on the Mumbai-Pune highway and branded pandal sponsorships across the city.
The initiatives sought to combine cultural relevance with consumer engagement, positioning quick commerce as part of the way Indians prepare for and participate in major festive occasions.
