The latest development coincides with the company’s larger artificial intelligence (AI) push
Aimed at reshaping package delivery to potentially replace human workers, Amazon is working actively to develop humanoid robots, as per media reports, which add that the machines will deliver the packages directly to customers’ doors from electric vans.
The reports added that the ecommerce company has set up a humanoid park testing facility at its San Francisco office. It features a Rivian delivery van where Amazon will test various humanoid robots in simulated delivery scenarios.
While using hardware from external manufacturers, the company is developing artificial intelligence (AI) software to power the robots. The reports added that the company wants to evaluate various models during the trials, with one being a USD 16,000 unit from China.
Upon completion of the testing phase at the facility, the company is looking to conduct field trips. The reports added that in this real-world scenario, the robots will attempt to deliver actual packages to homes. This effort is aimed at reducing delivery timings.
The company has already deployed autonomous robots in its warehouses and has previously run trials for logistics tasks, as per the report. The latest development coincides with the company’s larger AI push, which includes generative AI for enhanced delivery mapping and agentic AI systems for warehouse operations.
