Company says recall was limited to one batch and independent testing found preservative levels within permissible limits
Lotte India has said its Choco Pie has not been banned in India, clarifying that regulatory action by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Durg, Chhattisgarh, was limited to a specific batch of the product.
The company, a subsidiary of South Korea’s Lotte Corporation, said an independent analysis by a third-party NABL-accredited laboratory found that preservative levels in the concerned batch were within permissible limits. According to Lotte India, the product also met the applicable food safety standards.
The FDA action concerns Batch No. NM10DC2, manufactured on April 10, 2026, with an expiry date of April 9, 2027.
Lotte India said it had voluntarily recalled the batch as a precautionary step while the test results were being independently reviewed. It maintained that the recall was confined to the identified batch and did not amount to a withdrawal or ban on Choco Pie as a product.
“Reports suggesting that Lotte Choco Pie has been banned or that the product as a whole has been declared unsafe are therefore incorrect,” the company said.
The clarification comes after the Durg FDA’s action triggered concerns over the safety of the popular snack product.
Lotte India said it would continue to cooperate with the relevant authorities and take appropriate measures to resolve the issue. The company also reaffirmed its focus on product quality, food safety and compliance with regulatory requirements.
