Mother Dairy Revises Milk Packaging For Delhi NCR Market

Mother Dairy Invests Rs 750 Cr In New Plants To Boost Milk, F&V Processing

The company will roll out the new packaging with its cow milk variant in Delhi NCR, which will also feature a refreshed pack design, beginning World Environment Day

In line with its focus on sustainability, Mother Dairy, the wholly owned subsidiary of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), has unveiled India’s first naturally degradable milk pouch in soil. The company will roll out the new packaging with its cow milk variant in Delhi NCR, which will also feature a refreshed pack design, beginning World Environment Day.

The company says that its new milk pouch uses a first-of-its-kind degradable packaging innovation that enables the material to transform into bioavailable wax, which is naturally broken down by microbes present in the soil to turn it into natural elements. In addition to this, the company is also introducing a refreshed design language for its milk portfolio.

“The launch of India’s first naturally degradable milk pouch by Mother Dairy is yet another milestone reflecting the sector’s continued ability to lead and set new benchmarks, while remaining committed to a future-ready and sustainable ecosystem,” said Meenesh Shah, Chairman, National Dairy Development Board and Mother Dairy.

Shah, at the unveiling of the new initiative in New Delhi, told reporters that the newly introduced packaging is designed to naturally degrade in soil within a few years rather than centuries. Importantly, this transition is being undertaken without any impact on consumer milk prices, he stressed.

New Pouch And Design Language
The top leadership of the company explained that packaging innovation has been designed to ensure a seamless consumer experience, with no changes required in the way consumers store, handle or dispose of the milk pouch. The new packaging will have no impact on the milk’s quality, shelf life, or taste, Shah added.

“We undertook over four years of research to develop a naturally degradable milk pouch that leaves no trace of plastics in the environment. While these milk pouches will continue to remain recyclable, the key differentiator lies in their ability to degrade into natural elements, thereby helping address the challenge of fugitive plastic and contributing towards a cleaner ecosystem,” stated Jayatheertha Chary, Managing Director, Mother Dairy.

Alongside the packaging innovation, Mother Dairy is also introducing a refreshed design language for its milk portfolio. Central to the packaging refresh which begins with Mother Dairy’s cow milk variant, is the ‘Note of Care’, a distinctive brand device inspired by the brand’s logo.

“This brings alive the promise of ‘Maa Jaisi’ care through relatable everyday expressions, whether it is a reminder to ‘drink your milk’ or a gentle nudge to ‘get home safe’ in a fun, fresh and contemporary manner, reflecting Mother Dairy’s warmth and affection,” the company highlighted.

The refreshed packaging design also introduces cleaner typography and brighter visual tones. Going forward, the new design system will unify the brand’s entire milk portfolio under a cohesive Mother Dairy’ look, enhancing recall and brand equity.
