Pernod Ricard Initiates Inquiry After Raid On Indian Warehouse: Reports

Officials had found Ballantine’s Whisky labels stuck to bottles of cheaper local liquor in Rajasthan, as per the reports

After officials raided a warehouse and found Ballantine’s whisky labels on cheaper local liquor, Pernod Ricard has now initiated an internal inquiry in India, Reuters reported. The company stated that the incident took place at one of its marketing warehouses.

The report added that the company is determining how the bottles came to be present at that location. Led by an anonymous tip-off, an employee was arrested after the raid in Bhilwara. The investigating officer in the case stated that the arrested employee has been released on bail.

Pernod Ricard India has reported a 6 per cent rise in organic net sales for FY25, underscoring the country’s growing significance as a global growth engine for the French spirits maker. Strong consumer demand and a clear shift towards premium brands were cited as the key drivers behind the performance.

India now contributes 13 per cent of Pernod Ricard’s global net sales, consolidating its position as the company’s second-largest market after the US. Excluding Imperial Blue, sold earlier to Tilaknagar Industries for Rs 4,150 crore in cash as part of a global portfolio reshuffle, revenue growth was higher at 8 per cent, reflecting the company’s strategic tilt towards higher-value labels.

Indian-made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) manufacturer, Tilaknagar Industries (TI), reported a strong kick-off for Imperial Blue whisky under its fold. The brand registered primary sales of 1.79 million cases in December 2025, the first month under the TI banner.

Excluding Imperial Blue, TI’s core business, also delivered healthy growth. The company’s business (ex-Imperial Blue) recorded primary sales of 1.30 million cases in December 2025. TI further strengthened its market position in South India during the month. The South zone achieved secondary sales of 2.11 million cases. TI emerged as the second-largest national player in the South IMFL industry with a 9.7 per cent market share, while also becoming the largest player in the Prestige & Above (P&A) segment with a 32 per cent market share, as per the official statement.
