Actor returns to the brand years after a childhood ad as McDonald’s introduces a Rs 119 value meal for shared dining
McDonald’s India – North and East has appointed actor Sara Arjun as its brand ambassador, marking what the company describes as a nostalgic return for the young star who once appeared in a popular McDonald’s television commercial as a child.
The announcement coincides with the launch of a new advertising campaign introducing the Buddy Meal, a value-focused offering designed to encourage customers to share meals with friends.
Priced at Rs 119, the Buddy Meal includes two burgers — customers can choose between the McAloo Tikki or Veg Surprise — along with two servings of Coca-Cola and one medium fries. The meal brings together some of the brand’s familiar favourites in a combination intended for two people.
The campaign film recreates the playful “girlfriend–boyfriend” banter featured in the original advertisement in which Arjun appeared as a child. In the new commercial, the actor jokes about how relationships today can sometimes feel “too demanding”, with her buddy expecting grand gestures and even “princess treatment”. The conversation takes a humorous turn when her friend reveals he simply wants a McAloo Tikki, highlighting the idea that simple pleasures can often be the most meaningful.
The advertisement concludes with the voiceover line: “Shukar hai McDonald’s Buddy Meal for 2 hai… starts at just Rs 119,” followed by the pair sharing the meal together. The campaign carries the message “Khao Meal, Baat Ke”, emphasising sharing, simplicity and value.
Commenting on the collaboration, Anant Agarwal, Vice Chairman of MMG Group and CPRL, said the campaign reflects the brand’s focus on creating moments that bring people together.
“Sarah’s return to McDonald’s is a reminder of the emotional connection many customers have grown up with. With the Buddy Meal, we are celebrating friendship, nostalgia and the joy of sharing a McDonald’s meal together at great value,” he said.
Arjun said the association brings back personal memories from her early career. “McDonald’s has been a special part of my journey since childhood. Returning to the brand for this campaign feels incredibly nostalgic. The Buddy Meal captures the simple joy of sharing food and laughter with friends,” she said.
The Buddy Meal is available for a limited period across McDonald’s outlets in North and East India through dine-in, takeaway, drive-through, the McDonald’s app and major food delivery platforms.
