Maharashtra’s India Jewellery Park To Attract Rs 50,000 Crore Investment, Create 1 Lakh Jobs

The proposed facility in Mahape, Navi Mumbai, is being developed under GJEPC and aims to strengthen Maharashtra’s position in the gems and jewellery industry

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said the proposed India Jewellery Park in Mahape, Navi Mumbai, is expected to attract investments of around Rs 50,000 crore and generate employment for one lakh people. The project aims to strengthen Maharashtra’s position in the gems and jewellery industry and expand India’s presence in global markets.

Fadnavis made the announcement on Sunday at the commencement ceremony for the project, which was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The facility is being developed under the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and is planned as the country’s largest and most modern jewellery park.

Fadnavis described the project as a significant development for the industry, noting that the planned investment could create employment opportunities for 100,000 people. He said the initiative was part of Maharashtra’s broader efforts to consolidate its position in the gems and jewellery sector.

The chief minister said the project aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a global leader in the gems and jewellery industry. While India already held a prominent position in the sector internationally, he said the country aimed to expand its presence further.

Fadnavis noted that Maharashtra contributes 58 per cent of India’s total gems and jewellery exports. He added that the proposed park was expected to reinforce the state’s leadership in the industry over the next 30 to 40 years.

Separately, Fadnavis attributed Maharashtra’s ability to attract industrial investment to its law and order environment. He pointed to the state’s contribution of 40 per cent of India’s foreign direct investment (FDI) and its emergence as a hub for startups, unicorns and fintech businesses as indicators of its investment appeal.

The chief minister acknowledged that incidents of crime occur in the state but said the speed and effectiveness of police responses were critical to addressing them. He maintained that the state’s law and order environment was an important factor influencing investment decisions.
