Foxconn, Pegatron Halt iPhone Production In Tamil Nadu Due To Cyclonic Weather

Foxconn To Invest $55.29 Mn In Bengaluru Unit

Major Apple suppliers Foxconn and Pegatron have been compelled to suspend iPhone production at their factories near the capital of Tamil Nadu in the wake of torrential rains and an impending cyclone in the southern Indian city of Chennai.

The heavy rains have claimed at least two lives and led to the submersion of the runway at one of the country’s busiest airports.

Reuters sources have revealed that Foxconn, employing approximately 35,000 individuals at its iPhone manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, is yet to decide on whether production will resume on the following day.

This marks the second disruption for Pegatron in recent months, with the company having temporarily ceased iPhone assembly in September due to a factory fire.

Chennai, a vital electronics and manufacturing hub in the region, is grappling with the aftermath of the downpour, creating challenges for production facilities and supply chains.

The region has seen significant investments from Foxconn as it rapidly expands its presence in India through various manufacturing locations.
