The Haryana Cabinet approves a new excise policy, introducing changes in duties and regulations, effective from June 12, after Election Commission clearance
The Haryana Cabinet approved a new excise policy for 2024-25, following Election Commission approval. The policy will be effective for one year starting from June 12.
“There will be a slight increase in the excise duty on IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) and country liquor in the new policy,” the statement said.
However, specific details about the extent of the excise duty hike were not disclosed. The cabinet convened in Chandigarh, led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
The previous excise policy (2023-24) lasted for one year from June 12, 2023. For the year 2024-25, the maximum basic quota of IMFL will be 700 lakh proof litres and for country liquor, it will be 1,200 lakh proof litres. The QR code-based track and trace system, initially introduced in 2023-24 for IMFL and country liquor, will now include imported foreign liquor as well, according to the statement.
The department will set the minimum retail sale prices for imported liquor brands to streamline operations. Following policy approval, the excise department will commence e-auctions for retail vends from May 27.
The maximum number of retail vends will remain unchanged under the new policy. To participate in the e-auction, individuals must provide their Aadhar Card or Parivar Pehchan Patra, Income Tax Returns for the last three assessment years, and demonstrate a minimum net worth of Rs 60 lakh.
Due to the Model Code of Conduct during the ongoing Lok Sabha election, the EC’s approval was sought before finalising the policy decision.
