Hello Kitty’s parent company, Sanrio has appointed Dream Theatre as its licensing agency to foray into the Indian market. With a global valuation of 3.8 billion USD in 2022, Hello Kitty is primed for substantial retail sales growth in India over the next five years.
Reportedly, the company will initially focus more on apparel and accessories categories. Sanrio expects to have a good hold on the Indian market in the next three years through collaborations with key retailers. From August onwards, the brand is expected to be available with major retailers across multiple categories.
According to reports, the company is poised to target the biggest cities first and then extend its presence further. Sanrio is also expected to launch a Hindi YouTube channel along with promoting the existing English one in the Indian market in the second half of the year. In 2025, Telugu and Tamil channels are expected as well.
Initially, the company will focus on characters like Hello Kitty, My Melody and Kuromi in the Indian market.
Sanrio boasts an extensive product lineup which is available in over 130 countries and Asia is the best-performing market for the company and it contributes 60 per cent of the total business.
