Japanese electronics manufacturer TDX Corporation will manufacture battery cells for iPhones In India, according to a media report.
As per the report, TDX will supply battery cells to Premium electronic manufacturer Apple. The company is likely to work with the Sunwoda Electronics which already has operational units in India.
TDK has reportedly acquired Li-ion battery and cell manufacturer unit of Hong Kon based Amperex Technology at a cost of Rs 550 crore, which was established in 180-acre land near Gurugram, Haryana.
According to the report, TDX production plant to supply cells to Apple within the next 12-18 months. This move aligns with Apple’s strategy to expand its production base in India.

Apple is reportedly looking to achieve the production of nearly Rs 1 lakh crore worth of iPhones in India by the fiscal year ending March 2024. The company has already surpassed Rs 60,000 crore in production during the first seven months of the current fiscal year.
Approximately 70 per cent of iPhones manufactured in India are exported. Apple has exported iPhones worth Rs 40,000 crore (USD 5 billion) in the April to October period of the current fiscal year.
