Naturals Ice Cream Founder Raghunandan Kamath Passes Away

Raghunandan Kamath, founder of Natural’s Ice Cream passed away at the age of 70. Hailing from Mangalore, Kamath started Natural’s ice cream in 1984 from a single store in Juhu, Mumbai and turned it into a big brand with stores all over India.

The ice cream man of India died at Mumbai’s H N Reliance Foundation Hospital on May 17 after a short illness. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

Kamath, known as the ‘Ice Cream Man of India’, was born to a fruit seller in Mangalore. His remarkable journey from Mangalore to Mumbai began at the age of 14 when he started working at a restaurant. Against the odds, he succeeded in building a world-class ice cream brand.

One of his standout achievements was introducing the flavour of tender coconut, which had never been made before Naturals. It remains a personal favourite of this writer.
