US asset manager Davidson Kempner, owner of Britain’s Oak Furnitureland, is in talks with Superdry co-founder Julian Dunkerton about backing an offer for the clothes brand, Sky News said on Monday, the news agency Reuters reported.
According to the article, the discussions are still in the early stages, and there is no certainty that Davidson Kempner would eventually sign a deal with Dunkerton.
Superdry and Davidson Kempner declined to comment.
Dunkerton, the company’s CEO and largest shareholder, was also in negotiations with RCapital and Gordon Brothers about taking the ailing store private, Sky News reported earlier this month.
Superdry has had low demand for its coats and clothes, as well as a financial shortage. It stated in January that it does not expect market circumstances to improve in the foreseeable future after group sales slumped 13.7 per cent in a difficult Christmas quarter.
