Nila Spaces MD Deep Vadodaria on design-led homes, the IKEA India partnership, and why convenience is becoming the new benchmark in residential real estate
As Indian homebuyers increasingly prioritise convenience, functionality and experience over sheer size, residential developers are rethinking how homes are designed and delivered. For Nila Spaces, this shift has led to a stronger focus on creating ready-to-live-in homes that reduce the effort traditionally associated with setting up a new residence.
In an interaction with BW Retail World, Deep Vadodaria, Managing Director, Nila Spaces, discusses the company’s design philosophy, its partnership with IKEA India for the VIDA project in Gujarat, the growing importance of branded collaborations, and why the future of Indian housing lies in delivering better everyday living rather than simply constructing buildings.
Homebuyers today are increasingly prioritising experience, functionality and convenience over sheer square footage. How has this shift in consumer expectations influenced the design philosophy and product strategy at Nila Spaces?
Historically, homeownership in India was viewed as an ongoing project, with buyers furnishing and adapting their homes over several months after taking possession. Today, however, convenience and ease of living have become far more important.
At Nila Spaces, this has transformed our design philosophy. We focus on creating homes that are thoughtfully planned, highly functional and ready to live in from day one. Our objective is to provide a strong foundation that enables families to personalise their homes over time, while significantly reducing the complexity and effort traditionally associated with setting up a new home.
The partnership with IKEA India at VIDA is a first for Gujarat’s residential market. What strategic gap or consumer need does this collaboration address, and how does it differentiate the project in an increasingly competitive housing landscape?
The partnership was driven by our recognition of the gap between purchasing a home and making it ready for everyday living. While buyers invest substantially in acquiring a property, the process of furnishing and organising it often remains fragmented, time-consuming and stressful.
By collaborating with IKEA India, we simplify that journey. Buyers can experience fully designed show homes, make informed choices from the outset and move into homes that are ready from the very beginning. Rather than simply offering a residential property, VIDA delivers a complete living experience, which clearly differentiates it in the market.
As developers move beyond selling homes to curating lifestyles, how important are partnerships with global consumer brands in creating value for residents and enhancing project appeal?
These partnerships are becoming increasingly significant because today’s homebuyers expect much more than just physical space. They seek trust, transparency and integrated lifestyle solutions.
Collaborations such as ours with IKEA combine the expertise of both organisations, giving buyers confidence that they are benefiting from the strengths of each partner. Ultimately, these partnerships enable us to deliver consistency, quality and reliability—attributes that resonate strongly with modern homebuyers.
How do you balance affordability with premium design, smart space utilisation and integrated living experiences, particularly as cost pressures continue to rise?
We do not view integrated living as an exercise in premiumisation. Instead, our focus is on creating greater value through intelligent planning and a seamless customer experience.
Buyers retain the flexibility to choose solutions that suit their requirements, while the advantages of planning at scale make quality design and furnishing options more accessible than if customers sourced everything independently. The objective is to simplify the homeownership journey rather than increase costs.
Looking ahead, what will define the next generation of Indian housing—sustainability, technology, design-led living, branded collaborations or community-centric development? How is Nila Spaces preparing for that future?
The next generation of housing will be defined by homes that are designed around people’s lives rather than simply delivered as physical structures.
We believe design-led living, sustainability and adaptability will be central to this evolution. At Nila Spaces, we are embedding functionality, convenience and flexibility into every project from the outset, ensuring homes can evolve alongside the changing needs of families while genuinely enhancing their quality of life.
Do you see branded residential collaborations—similar to those seen in global luxury real estate—becoming a larger trend in India’s mid-income and premium housing segments? What lessons from the Nila Spaces-IKEA partnership could shape future industry collaborations?
Absolutely. We would welcome branded collaborations becoming a broader industry template if they help improve the overall homeownership experience.
The biggest lesson from our partnership with IKEA is that successful collaborations are built around changing customer expectations. They succeed by fostering trust through transparency and quality while providing buyers with greater flexibility. The real objective is not exclusivity, but making everyday living better for homeowners.
