Flipkart Sees Festive Demand Surge As Holi Shopping Peaks

Quick commerce arm Flipkart Minutes records sharp rise in last-minute festive orders

Ecommerce major Flipkart recorded a significant surge in festive demand during Holi, as shoppers turned to the platform for both planned purchases and last-minute celebratory essentials.

The festival, known for its spontaneity and vibrant celebrations, translated into heightened activity across the platform. Flipkart refreshed its app discovery experience with a bold geometric flat-vector design to help users navigate curated festive selections more easily. The platform focused on combining affordability with rapid delivery, offering festive essentials starting at Rs 9.

According to the company, shoppers responded strongly to a wide range of products associated with the festival, including traditional white kurtas, Holika Dahan kits, celebratory smoke guns and festive décor items.

A notable trend this year was the rise of what Flipkart described as the “last-minute celebrator”, particularly on its quick-commerce service Flipkart Minutes. The platform recorded a six-fold year-on-year increase in orders, with more than 2.5 lakh purchases placed between midnight and noon on 4 March alone.

Demand spanned both festive and everyday categories. Products such as mobile pouches, men’s and children’s T-shirts, women’s kurtis, sunglasses and portable speakers saw strong traction alongside festival essentials. Items typically associated with Holi celebrations — including colours, pichkaris, sweets and even ice cubes — also witnessed strong demand, highlighting the growing trend of just-in-time shopping.

Geographically, major metropolitan cities such as Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata remained key demand centres. However, the company also noted robust participation from non-metro markets, including Jamshedpur, Surat, Guwahati, Siliguri, Visakhapatnam, Vadodara, Durgapur, Varanasi and Nashik.

The strong participation from smaller cities underscores the rapid expansion of quick-commerce and value-driven online shopping beyond India’s major urban centres. With faster delivery models gaining traction, consumers across the country are increasingly relying on digital platforms to meet both planned and impulse festive purchases.

Flipkart’s Holi demand surge reflects a broader shift in consumer behaviour, where affordability, convenience and speed are shaping the evolving festive shopping experience across India’s ecommerce landscape.
