The new collection marries heritage hand embroidery with modern design and AI-crafted visuals to celebrate spring’s timeless charm
As spring casts its gentle spell across the country, Fabindia has unveiled The Song of Spring—a graceful tribute to Chikankari, one of India’s most delicate and enduring embroidery traditions. Melding ancient craft with modern innovation, the collection reimagines hand embroidery through the lens of artificial intelligence while honouring the cultural richness of the art form.
The latest offering from Fabindia features flowing silhouettes in cottons and silks—kurtas, tunics, and dupattas—crafted with intricate needlework and soft, earthy hues. Each piece captures the spirit of spring, with pastel tones, delicate florals, and tonal embroidery enhancing the ethereal quality of the garments. The use of AI-generated floral visuals in campaign imagery reflects a bold step forward in integrating technology with tradition.
Originating in the early 17th century, Chikankari is known for its gossamer-light stitches and poetic precision. The embroidery technique, comprising more than 32 unique stitches, creates layers of texture and light play. From Bakhiya (shadow work) to Phanda (floral knots) and Jaali (lattice patterns), the craft is steeped in elegance and heritage. Each stitch in this collection tells a story of artisanal mastery.
“The Song of Spring is not merely a campaign; it’s a heartfelt tribute to the hands that preserve India’s textile legacy,” said a Fabindia spokesperson. “By blending tradition with contemporary expression and using AI-generated elements to highlight the design inspiration, we’ve sought to present Chikankari in a new light—both literally and figuratively.”
Available now in all Fabindia stores nationwide and online, each garment carries the Craftmark certification—a testament to authenticity and sustainable craftsmanship.
