Swiss Military Targets Mass-Premium Boom With Alpine Club

Swiss Military enters India’s Rs 5,000 crore mass-premium travel gear segment with Alpine Club, backed by Rs 60 crore investment and an aggressive retail expansion plan

Swiss Military has launched Alpine Club, a new sub-brand aimed at India’s fast-growing mass-premium travel gear segment, as the company targets combined annual revenue of nearly Rs 1,000 crore within the next three years.

The company estimates India’s mass-premium travel gear market at nearly Rs 5,000 crore, within a broader branded travel gear market of around Rs 7,500 crore. Swiss Military is targeting a 5% market share for Alpine Club and expects the new range to contribute around one-third of its revenue over the next three years.

“India’s travel gear market is undergoing a decisive structural shift, with demand expanding well beyond the exclusive premium segment, where we are already very well entrenched,” said Anuj Sawhney, Managing Director, Swiss Military. “Alpine Club gives an opportunity to emerge as a significant player in the mass-premium category.”

Alpine Club To Target Aspirational Consumers
Alpine Club’s initial portfolio comprises 36 SKUs across three hard-luggage collections — Miles, Helix and Vortex — priced between Rs 6,500 and Rs 7,500.

The company plans to expand the portfolio to include soft luggage, backpacks and travel accessories in subsequent phases. It is particularly targeting Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, which it identifies as key growth markets for branded travel gear.

The initial rollout will focus on Delhi NCR, Telangana, Gujarat, Bihar and Jharkhand, before expanding into other markets.

The launch also marks Swiss Military’s move towards a two-brand portfolio strategy. While Swiss Military will continue to occupy the premium segment, Alpine Club is designed to broaden the company’s reach among value-conscious and aspirational consumers.

Rs 60 Crore Investment In Manufacturing And Testing
Swiss Military has committed approximately Rs 60 crore towards manufacturing capacity and a new in-house product-testing facility to support the Alpine Club expansion.

The products come with a warranty of five years or more and are tested across more than 10 quality parameters, including wheel, trolley, handle and body-stress testing.

“Alpine Club is built for scale from day one,” said Digvijay Tiwari, Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Swiss Military. “We are backing the launch with real distribution infrastructure, ranging from our warehouse network to an aggressive EBO rollout.”

EBO Network To Expand Sharply
Swiss Military currently sells through approximately 3,000 multi-brand outlets across India, supported by a 29-warehouse logistics network.

The company currently has two pilot Exclusive Brand Outlets (EBOs) in Hyderabad and Surat. It plans to increase this to around 30 EBOs by December 2026 and approximately 50 by the end of the current fiscal year.

The company also plans to expand its presence through large-format and organised retail channels, using the wider distribution network to build Alpine Club’s presence beyond major metropolitan markets.

The launch comes as India’s travel and luggage market benefits from rising domestic and international travel, increasing consumer preference for branded products and growing demand from smaller cities. For Swiss Military, Alpine Club represents an attempt to capture this broader consumption opportunity while retaining its premium positioning through its flagship brand.
