The companies have jointly developed a range of connected-home devices, with LG handling manufacturing and support as Apple prepares to expand its smart home ecosystem
Apple is set to widen its smart home footprint with a range of devices developed with LG Electronics, including a video doorbell, smart lock and thermostat. The products are expected to form part of Apple’s revamped home ecosystem around its upcoming smart home hub.
The partnership extends beyond entry and climate-control devices to indoor and outdoor security cameras, a floodlight camera and a temperature sensor. While Apple and LG have worked together on the products, the devices will carry the LG brand, with the South Korean company responsible for manufacturing and product support.
New Smart Home Lineup
The upcoming range includes the LG Video Doorbell Wired, LG Smart Deadbolt Lock, LG Smart Thermostat, LG Temperature Sensor, LG Indoor Cam Plug-In, LG Outdoor Cam Plug-In and LG Floodlight Cam, according to regulatory filings cited in the report. LG has sought approvals from the US Federal Communications Commission and UL Solutions for the products in recent weeks.
The devices are being developed to work with Apple’s broader smart home ecosystem, which is expected to include a new smart home hub, an upgraded HomePod mini and a new TV set-top box. Apple is expected to introduce those products on October 13, although the LG-developed accessories are not expected to reach consumers for at least a few more months.
Connectivity And Security Features
Several of the devices support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, alongside Thread and Matter, two connectivity standards used across the smart home industry. The smart deadbolt also supports ultra-wideband, or UWB, enabling proximity-based features such as automatically unlocking the door when an authorised user approaches.
LG has requested confidentiality for photographs and more detailed information on the products until early 2027. The regulatory filings identify the devices and reveal certain specifications, but do not disclose Apple’s involvement in their development.
Apple’s HomeKit Reboot
The product push is part of Apple’s broader effort to revive its smart home business and represents a formal reboot of HomeKit, the platform introduced in 2014. Apple plans to use its smart home hardware alongside Siri to strengthen its presence in a market where Amazon’s Ring and Google’s Nest already have established product portfolios.
Apple is also reported to be exploring additional smart home products, including a privacy-focused home-monitoring device, a version of its smart home hub mounted on a robotic arm and an in-home security monitoring service. These plans would further expand the company’s presence beyond its existing HomePod, Apple TV and Home app ecosystem.
LG Expands Beyond Appliances
For LG, the partnership expands its smart home hardware portfolio beyond its established television and appliance businesses. The new range includes its first indoor camera in nearly a decade, as well as its first outdoor camera, thermostat, floodlight camera and doorbell in recent history, while the smart lock will be its first such product sold outside South Korea.
The companies have worked together on several products and technologies previously. LG Display supplies screens for Apple products, while Apple has worked with LG Electronics on integrating services into LG televisions. The companies also previously co-developed external monitors designed to work with Apple’s laptops.
