The luxury brand, which recorded Rs 650 crore revenue in FY26, is also scaling up eyewear, small leather goods and international ready-to-wear
Sabyasachi plans to enter fragrances, small leather goods and footwear while expanding its eyewear and international ready-to-wear businesses, as the luxury brand broadens its portfolio beyond couture and jewellery.
The brand recorded revenue of Rs 650 crore in the financial year 2026. Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Founder and Creative Director, Sabyasachi, said the expansion formed part of the brand’s long-term ambition to build India’s first global luxury lifestyle business.
Sabyasachi expects to introduce its first fragrance within the next 18 months. It is also expanding its range of small leather goods, including wallets, with the category expected to help the brand reach a wider consumer base.
The Middle East is emerging as a growth market, while the brand continues to explore opportunities across international markets.
Jewellery now accounts for around 33 per cent of Sabyasachi’s turnover, contributing approximately Rs 200 crore. Its accessories business is expected to cross Rs 100 crore this year, while leather accessories and international ready-to-wear are gaining greater prominence.
Mukherjee said the objective was not simply to increase the scale of the business, but to build a more complete luxury house. New categories, he said, would allow customers to engage with the brand more frequently without diluting its focus on quality and craftsmanship.
Global Ready-To-Wear Push
|The brand is also developing an international ready-to-wear business shaped by a Calcutta perspective. Some products will be manufactured within Sabyasachi’s own ecosystem, while others will be produced in partnership with specialist factories and ateliers overseas.
Mukherjee said Sabyasachi did not intend to replicate established global luxury brands. Instead, it aimed to participate in the international market with a distinct Indian identity.
He added that the brand did not enter categories solely because of their commercial potential. Any expansion, he said, needed to align with Sabyasachi’s cultural and aesthetic identity.
Eyewear, for instance, evolved from the brand’s existing design language. Sabyasachi initially entered the category through a collaboration with Morgenthal Frederics and is now building it into a larger business independently.
Manufacturing And Retail
Small leather goods are expected to become an important part of the business, particularly in the gifting segment. Women’s and men’s footwear is also planned after the fragrance launch.
Over the past year, the brand has moved into new manufacturing facilities in Calcutta. Investment will focus on expanding capacity, strengthening product development and supporting the artisans associated with the business.
Sabyasachi currently operates retail outlets in Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and New York City.
Mukherjee said exhibitions and partnerships with leading international retailers had helped the brand assess overseas markets before making permanent retail commitments. Store expansion, he said, would be driven by market understanding and long-term potential rather than visibility alone.
The wider portfolio and international push signal Sabyasachi’s effort to build a global luxury business while retaining its roots in Indian design and craftsmanship.
