Swiggy Expands Food On Train Service To 122 stations

Swiggy Introduces ‘No Added Sugar’ Category for Healthier Festive Treats

Swiggy widens its railway network and boosts advance meal-booking options for travellers

Swiggy has expanded its ‘Food on Train’ service to 122 railway stations across India, responding to rising demand from long-distance travellers. The company has also extended its advance meal-ordering window from 24 hours to 96 hours, allowing passengers to plan food deliveries further ahead of their journey.

New stations added to the network include Anantpur, Madurai, Alwar, Kozhikode, Khurda Road, Yesvantpur and Gonda. Swiggy said the service saw strong traction during the recent festive period, when many passengers relied on it to access familiar meals while travelling.

“With our network now spanning 122 stations and an updated 4-day pre-booking window, we’re making it even easier for travellers to plan ahead and enjoy meals from local favourites,” said Deepak Maloo, Vice President for food strategy, customer experience and new initiatives at Swiggy.

The platform reported high engagement during the festive season, with biryani leading nationwide orders, followed by masala dosa, burgers, pav bhaji, margarita pizza and corn chaat. Desserts such as gulab jamun, rasgulla, waffles and cheesecake jars were also popular additions.

Orders came from both national chains and regional kitchens, including Haldiram’s, Paradise Biryani, A2B, Hotel Aryaas, Annai Restaurant, Rominus Pizza and McDonald’s. Regional preferences varied: northern passengers leaned towards biryani and aloo paratha, while travellers in the south opted for dishes like dosa and curd rice. Thalis were more common in the east, and pav bhaji and vada pav dominated in the west.

The service recorded high volumes on trains such as the Garib Rath Express, Seshadri Express, Sabari Superfast Express and Kerala Express. On one festival special from SMVT Bengaluru to New Tinsukia, 28 passengers in a single coach placed simultaneous orders that were delivered at one station.
