Blinkit To Shift To Inventory-led Model From 1 Sep: Reports

Blinkit's Ad Revenue Triples In Q3

The reports note that the company will now directly buy the inventory from its sellers, instead of just storing it in its warehouses for them

After Eternal became an Indian-owned and controlled company (IOCC) in April, Blinkit is shifting to an inventory-led model as planned from 1 September. Media reports noted that that the quick commerce platform has asked its sellers to transition to the new system.

The company will now buy the inventory from its sellers, instead of just storing it in its warehouses for them, the reports pointed out. From 1 September, the company will engage in direct buying of inventory from brands and sellers, instead of them listing their offerings on the marketplace, as per the reports.

The reports emphasised that the company has written an email to its sellers where it has made it clear that the last date to opt into the new system is 30 July and no new inventory or listings will be allowed after that for non-accepted sellers. After this is completed, the inventory moves from their books to BCPL (Blinkit) from 31 August, as per the reports.

In case a seller does not want to transition to the new model, the company will return the inventory after deducting reverse logistics costs, the reports noted, while adding that the platform operates two models currently. Its marketplace model allows the sellers to list their products and pay Blinkit to house them in its warehouses. On the other hand, the second model allows select sellers to buy products in bulk and sell them through the platform. This is generally offered to well-renowned and larger brands with high-frequency purchases, the reports explained.
