Retail Sector Gains Momentum As June Sales Grow 8% YoY

India's Retail Market To See Steady Growth In 2024: CBRE Report

Regional data shows that west India recorded the highest year-on-year growth at 10 per cent

Highlighting that the retail sector has gained momentum, the Retailers Association of India (RAI), in its report, revealed that the pan-India retail sales growth was recorded at a rate of 8 per cent in June 2025 over the corresponding period in the previous year.

The industry body, in its 63rd retail business survey, stated that regional data shows that west India recorded the highest year-on-year growth at 10 per cent. North India recorded a 9 per cent rise, followed by south and east India, showing a growth of 7 per cent and 4 per cent, respectively.

“Retail sales grew by 7 per cent in May and 8 per cent in June, following nearly a year of 4 to 5 per cent year-on-year growth. The festive season begins at the end of August, which may influence how demand evolves, said Kumar Rajagopalan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Retailers Association of India (RAI).

Among categories, apparel and sports goods led with 10 per cent growth each, while consumer durables and electronics (CDIT), jewellery and quick service restaurant (QSR) grew by 9 per cent each, as per the data by RAI. Rajagopalan added that retailers have a sharp focus on the way consumers are buying non-discretionary goods. Non-discretionary spending creates hope for the consumption market, he noted.
