Celebrating India’s legacy of space exploration and innovation, Titan unveils a limited-edition masterpiece inspired by unity and progress
Marking four decades of excellence and craftsmanship, Titan Watches has paid a heartfelt tribute to one of India’s most iconic achievements—the space journey of Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian to travel to space. On this occasion, the brand unveiled the ‘Unity Watch,’ a celestial-inspired, limited-edition timepiece that celebrates India’s boundless aspirations and shared dreams.
In 1984, aboard the Soviet spacecraft Soyuz T-11, Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma immortalised the moment with his timeless response, “Saare Jahaan Se Achha,” when asked how India looks from space. This enduring statement, symbolising unity and pride, remains etched in history. Titan’s Unity Watch encapsulates this spirit, drawing inspiration from the extraordinary perspective of Earth as a unified and limitless whole.
At a special ceremony held at Lupa in Bengaluru, Titan presented the first Unity Watch to Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma himself. The intimate gathering saw the legendary cosmonaut share vivid recollections of his space voyage, describing the breathtaking view of Earth—a vision that transcends borders and reminds us of humanity’s shared home. Titan’s design team further showcased the artistry and innovation behind the creation of the Unity Watch, drawing parallels between the precision required in watchmaking and space exploration.
A Timeless Tribute to Space and Innovation
Crafted as a limited-edition timepiece, the Unity Watch combines artistry with groundbreaking design. The midnight blue dial features a stunning, detailed view of India as seen from space, reflecting Sharma’s inspiring vision of unity. Each hour marker integrates the colors of the Indian tricolor—saffron, white, and green—while the second hand, shaped like a rocket, pays homage to India’s space journey. The celestial design, paired with a premium deep blue leather strap, exudes elegance and patriotic pride.
The back of the watch features an engraving of Sharma’s iconic phrase, “Saare Jahaan Se Achha,” along with the date of his historic space expedition—April 3, 1984. With only 300 pieces available, the Unity Watch becomes a symbol of aspiration, legacy, and progress.
Titan’s Commitment to ‘Make in India’
Commenting on the launch, Rahul Shukla, Vice President & CSMO, Titan Watches, said, “For four decades, Titan has been a storyteller of India’s aspirations. This year, we celebrate not just our journey but also the legacy of Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, whose space mission united the dreams of millions. The Unity Watch, designed and crafted in India, celebrates our spirit of innovation and pays tribute to those who inspire us to reach for the stars.”
Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma reflected on the honour, stating, “Forty years ago, I saw Earth from space—one beautiful, unified planet without borders. Titan’s Unity Watch captures that perspective. It is a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect our home for future generations.”
The Titan Unity Watch, a rare collectible for watch enthusiasts and history aficionados alike, will be available for purchase at select Titan stores and online platforms.
