Reports state that combined with ABD’s operational scale, the acquisition of these brands offer an opportunity for growth and market dominance
In alignment with its strategic goal of expanding the company’s portfolio in the premium alcoholic beverages segment, Allied Blenders and Distillers (ABD), a spirits company, has acquired all brands and other intellectual property rights (IPR) from Fullarton Distilleries, the maker of Pumori gin and Woodburns whiskey for around Rs 40 crore.
With expansion plans in progress for other key markets, Woodburns now operates in six states and union territories. The media reports added that Pumori and Segredo Aldeia has set up on-trade presence in key markets such as Maharashtra and Goa. It said that combined with ABD’s operational scale, the acquisition of these brands offer an opportunity for growth and market dominance within the super-premium spirits category.
ABD has set up itself in five main spirits categories such as whisky, brandy, rum, vodka and gin. The reports state that the company’s manufacturing network consist of 36 units at present. Of these, nine are owned bottling units, two owned distilleries and 25 non-owned manufacturing units. The increasing trend for gin space is evident in the fact that over the past few years, mainstream companies have marked their entry in the gin space.
The reports added that this is either by acquiring startups or introducing their own gin brand. United Spirits acquired a minority stake in Nao Spirits. On the other hand, the reports stated that Tilaknagar Industries bought a stake in Spaceman Spirits Lab.
