Prepaid RuPay mobility card to be delivered in minutes across five major cities, enabling seamless tap-and-pay travel on metros and buses
Quick commerce platform Blinkit has introduced the NCMC-enabled Bharat Yatra Card, a prepaid RuPay-backed mobility solution aimed at simplifying public transport payments across Indian cities. The card is available for doorstep delivery within minutes in Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai and Ahmedabad.
“Today, we’re launching the NCMC Bharat Yatra Card on Blinkit. It’s a Rs 50, zero-KYC, RuPay powered card by PineLabs which supports instant UPI top ups and also eliminates the need for city specific transport cards. This is a meaningful step in enabling public transport usage (metro and buses) across different cities in India. We’ve started deliveries in Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, and Ahmedabad,” Albinder Dhindsa, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Blinkit said in his X post.
The Bharat Yatra Card functions as a National Common Mobility Card-compatible smart card developed in collaboration with Pine Labs. It is designed to serve as a single payment instrument across public transport systems that accept the NCMC framework, allowing commuters to tap and pay on metro networks and buses without the need for separate city-specific cards.
Built specifically for transit use, the card supports contactless and offline transactions, enabling continued access even in areas with limited connectivity. Priced at Rs 50, it is positioned as an affordable option for frequent travellers. The activation process does not require KYC verification, allowing users to register quickly using their mobile number through a dedicated application.
Funds can be added instantly through UPI via the Bharat Yatra app, the Bharat Connect platform or physical recharge points such as metro stations and bus depots. The card also supports offline balance storage of up to Rs. 2,000, ensuring uninterrupted tap-and-go travel within the stored value limit.
Acceptance of the card spans multiple participating NCMC-enabled networks. It is currently valid across all metro lines in Delhi and NCR, Mumbai Metro and Best bus services, Bengaluru’s Namma Metro, Chennai Metro and MTC buses, and Ahmedabad Metro, along with Kanpur Metro. Bus services in Guwahati, Haryana, Jammu, Srinagar, Himachal Pradesh and Aurangabad are also included. The network is expected to widen as more cities integrate with the NCMC ecosystem.
A companion mobile application allows users to manage their cards digitally, including checking balances, viewing transaction histories, and blocking or unblocking cards when necessary. The platform also enables management of multiple cards under one account.
The development addresses a persistent challenge for commuters who travel frequently between cities and often need to juggle multiple transit cards. By consolidating mobility payments into a single, low-cost instrument, the initiative aligns with the government’s broader push towards integrated and cashless public transport under the the National Common Mobility Card programme.
