The issue stems from an advertisement featuring Ramdev, where he questioned the authenticity of other chyawanprash products being sold in the market
In a blow to Ramdev’s Patanjali, the Delhi High Court (HC) has restrained Patanjali Ayurved from publishing or broadcasting advertisements that allegedly criticise Dabur chyawanprash. Justice Mini Pushkarna passed the interim order and allowed interim applications filed by Dabur India against the ads run by Patanjali, as per the reports.
The reports noted that the court will take up the matter again on 14 July. The issue stems from an advertisement featuring Ramdev, where he questioned the authenticity of other chyawanprash products being sold in the market, as per the reports.
Raising objections on the parts of the advertisement where a 40-herb chyawanprash was referred to as ordinary, Dabur argued that this was directly aimed at their product, which claims to possess over 40 herbs and enjoys a healthy 60 per cent market share in the chyawanprash segment, as per the reports.
Noting that such statements brand Dabur’s products as inferior, the company argued that they misrepresent Patanjali’s own formulation and questions Dabur’s adherence to Ayurvedic tradition, the reports emphasised.
Dabur stated that the advertisement misleads consumers and undermines confidence. The reports added that the company noted that labelling other brands as ordinary is harmful as well as misleading.
