Ecommerce Order Volumes Up 60% YoY For Healthy, Organic Food: Report

The reports states that tier 3 markets led the ecommerce order volumes for healthy food and snacks

With a significant rise in consumption of organic pulses, stone-ground spices and wood-pressed edible oils, a report has revealed that there has been over 60 per cent year-on-year (YoY) surge in ecommerce order volumes for such products, highlighting the rapid increase in demand for healthy food staples and snacks.

Unicommerce, an ecommerce and retail enablement SaaS platform, analysed over 20 million order items processed by organic and healthy food brands via its flagship platform, Uniware. The analysis compared sales during the past six months (September 2024 to February 2025) with sales in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Ecommerce order volumes for healthy foods and snacks were led by buyers from tier-3 markets, where volumes grew by 90 per cent YoY from September 24 – February 25. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research’s (ICMR) dietary guidelines published in April 2024, 56.4 per cent of the total disease burden in India is due to unhealthy diet, the report stated.

Some of the regions that observed a notable uptick in demand were Kolar, Rohtak, Sonipat and Gandhinagar among tier-3 cities and Jaipur, Lucknow, Coimbatore, Nagpur and Indore among tier-2 cities, as per the report.

“As demand patterns are rapidly evolving, tech-enabled brands are able to react much faster in meeting the dynamic demand – offering customised promotions, handling multiple sales channels, leveraging specialised logistics partners, planning inventory distribution, handling returns and reconciliations, and providing an overall efficient and engaging shopping experience for the end customers,” said Kapil Makhija, Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Unicommerce.

The report added that the rise in demand for innovative snacking has also attracted legacy companies that have diversified their product offerings to meet the evolving needs of consumers. The growing appetite for healthy foods and eatables is also driving the entry of new players in the market.

India’s organic food industry is projected to grow from USD 2.07 Billion in 2024 to USD 10.32 Billion by 2032, exhibiting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22.20 per cent during the forecast period (2024 – 2032), as per the report.
