FSSAI Directs Patanjali To Recall Red Chilli Powder Batch

FSSAI Targets Misleading Beverage Labels On Ecommerce, 'Health Drink' & 'Energy Drink' Terms Banned

The order came regarding the non-conformance of The Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011

Due to non-conformance of The Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011, Patanjali Foods has been directed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to initiate the recall of the entire batch of implicated food (Red Chilli Powder (packed) of batch number AJD2400012.

The company informed the same in an exchange filing and added that it received the order on 16 January. The order from FSSAI was dated 13 January 2025. However, the company did not share a detailed note regarding the same matter.

Operating in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) segment, the company deals in a range of edible oils and packaged foods including biscuits, noodles and sugar. The company marked a considerable increase in its net profit during the second quarter of the current financial year (Q2FY25). Its quarterly profit after tax (Pat) rose to Rs 308.97 crore in Q2FY25 as compared to Rs 254.54 crore in Q2FY24.

As per the media reports, the domestic spice industry was under scrutiny in the previous year after the suspension of sales of certain products by major spice makers in Hong Kong and Singapore on the allegations of high levels of a cancer-causing pesticide.
