Gujarat CM Okays Textile Policy Amendments to Support Women SHGs

High Shipping Costs, Shipments' Delay, Red Sea Woes Hit Textile Exports

Self-help Groups (SHGs) of women connected for the equal purpose of livelihood will be able to avail benefits under the textile policy

With the aim of further broadening the approach toward women’s empowerment, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has issued directives to introduce significant amendments to the provisions of the textile policy 2024.

“Accordingly, one or more Self-help Groups (SHGs) of women connected for the equal purpose of livelihood under Self-help Groups registered with the National Rural Livelihood Mission or National Urban Livelihood Mission or other voluntary self-help groups will be able to avail benefits under the textile policy,” Gujarat CMO said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

In addition, units engaged in non-polluting textile manufacturing activities related to garments, apparel and made-ups, stitching, embroidery and other activities located within the limits of municipal areas in the state will also be provided benefits under this policy.

“Through this decision of the Chief Minister, the women of the state will become more economically empowered and self-reliant, employment generation will be encouraged in the urban areas of the state, and opportunities for local-level employment will increase for skilled/semi-skilled workers,” the post added.

The official statement noted that with labour-intensive activities such as stitching and embroidery increasingly located in urban areas, women workers are likely to gain better access to local employment, aiding socio-economic stability and better work-life balance.
