Former HUL and GCPL executive will serve on the e-commerce company’s board until October 2031, subject to shareholder approval
Meesho has appointed Sudhir Sitapati, former managing director and chief executive of Godrej Consumer Products (GCPL), as a non-executive independent director for a five-year term, subject to shareholder approval. The ecommerce company’s board approved the appointment on 28 October, with the term running until 27 October 2031, according to the appointment details provided.
Meesho co-founder and CEO Vidit Atrey announced the appointment on X on Thursday. “Delighted to welcome Sudhir Sitapati to Meesho’s Board as an Independent Director,” he wrote, citing Sitapati’s experience at Hindustan Unilever (HUL) and GCPL.
In a LinkedIn post, Sitapati said his interactions with Meesho had left him “gob-smacked”. He also recalled a friend from the venture capital and private equity industry describing Atrey as “a once in a generation CEO”. Sitapati added that he felt privileged to have a “ring side view” of what he believed could become one of India’s great companies.
Sitapati spent more than two decades at HUL, where he held leadership positions across foods, refreshments, skin cleansing and fabric cleaning. As executive director for foods and refreshments, he was involved in the merger and integration of GSK Consumer Healthcare with HUL.
He joined GCPL as managing director and CEO in October 2021, overseeing its operations across emerging markets. He resigned on August 11, 2026, and was succeeded by former chief financial officer Aasif Malbari.
Sitapati is also an independent director at Asian Paints. He has previously chaired the Confederation of Indian Industry’s FMCG Committee and served on Flipkart’s advisory board.
