Prada, Maharashtra Body To Discuss Collaboration On Kolhapuri Sandals: Reports

The reports noted that the meeting is likely to happen on 11 July and is likely to be attended by the senior officials from Prada

Aimed at discussing the future course of collaboration on a Kolhapuri chappal-inspired line of men’s sandals, the Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (MACCIA) and Italian luxury fashion brand Prada are set to hold a high-level virtual meeting, as per the media reports.

The reports noted that the meeting is likely to happen on 11 July. The meeting is likely to be attended by the senior officials from Prada, including Lorenzo Bertelli, head of corporate social responsibility and Roberto Massardi, chief business development officer, as per the official reports.

A joint working group, consisting of representatives from Prada, MACCIA and local artisan organisations, has been proposed by the state’s apex trade body to further the talks. The initiative is seen as a move that will set a global benchmark for ethical fashion and will also demonstrate how heritage and innovation can harmoniously co-exist.

The reports highlighted that MACCIA had first written to Prada on 25 June. The body urged the company to acknowledge the inspiration behind its spring summer 2026 menswear collections that showcased Kolhapuri chappals. Bertelli acknowledged the traditional craftsmanship, the reports added, while citing that Bertelli noted that the collection was still in the early stages of development.
