Reddit User Alleges Internal Chaos At Zomato, CEO Goyal Reacts

The Reddit post alleges that Zomato’s leadership had admitted in a recent internal meeting that the company was losing market share to rivals like Zepto Cafe and Swiggy

Reacting to a Reddit user’s claims that Zomato was losing market share to its rivals and enforcing strict internal policies on employees, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zomato, Deepinder Goyal, has dismissed the allegations. Taking to X, Goyal termed the rumours ‘utter nonsense’ as he aimed to reassure users and stakeholders.

“All of this… is utter nonsense,” Goyal wrote while sharing a link to the Reddit post, which had been published anonymously on the StartUpIndia subreddit.

The Reddit post alleged that Zomato’s leadership had admitted in a recent internal meeting that the company was losing market share to rivals like Zepto Cafe and Swiggy. According to the post, the supposed response included panic-driven policies such as mandating employees to order from Zomato at least seven times a month, with ordering from competitors like Swiggy and Zepto allegedly banned within the office.

The anonymous post also criticised Zomato’s pay structure for delivery partners and claimed that restaurant partners were dissatisfied with the company’s policies. “Restaurant partners are fed up too. They are pushed into spending on ads just to remain visible, with no real help or insight into performance. Most of them are left in the dark and even basic support is a nightmare,” the post claimed.

Responding to these accusations, Goyal said, “Neither are we losing market share, nor will we ever force our employees to order on Zomato. Freedom of choice is something we stand for vehemently. It is embarrassing to even clarify this — but doing it since many people reached out to me with concern.”

He also thanked everyone who expressed their concern, reiterating the company’s commitment to employee freedom and operational transparency.
