Ajio & Myntra Suspend Sales Of Turkish Apparel Brands

Industry body Cait has urged all ecommerce, retail, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies in India to act in the same spirit

Myntra and Reliance’s Ajio have stopped the sale of Turkish apparel brands on their platforms, amid boycott calls stemming from Turkey’s support of Pakistan during the recent military conflict between India and Pakistan. Myntra has suspended sales of all Turkish brands, including Trendyol, for which it holds an exclusive right to market in the country, as per the media reports.

On the other hand, Ajio, too, has suspended all of its Turkish apparel brands portfolio that was being sold on its platform. The reports added that the brands consist of Koton, LC Waikiki and Mavi. The reports added that Myntra officials stated that the company is evaluating its partnership in case the issue escalates any further, and there is no clarity on the availability of brands currently.

“At a time when Turkey is openly supporting Pakistan and its anti-India agenda, Indian companies taking a firm stand against its economic interests is a true reflection of patriotism and commercial prudence. AJIO and Myntra have exemplified the spirit of ‘nation first’ through this move,” stated Praveen Khandelwal, National Secretary General, Confederation of All India Traders (Cait).

Earlier, at the national traders’ conference organised by the Cait, former Union Minister and Cait’s Strategic Advisor Smriti Irani supported the decision taken by trader leaders across the country to sever all trade relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan.

“When small traders across the country are standing with the nation, giving up business interests to uphold the pride of the motherland, that sacrifice too plays a vital role in nation-building. It is our collective responsibility to do whatever we can for our soldiers and their families,” Smriti Irani highlighted.

Khandelwal emphasised that the time has come for all ecommerce, retail, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies in India to act in the same spirit and remove products or brands from Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan from their supply chains.
