India Exports First Biscuit Shipment To Oman Under CEPA: Goyal

Goyal Assures Stable Food Prices, Highlights Govt's Track Record

India has exported its first consignment of 40 metric tonnes (MT) of biscuits manufactured in Varanasi to Oman under the India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Friday.

The shipment marks the first export of biscuits from Varanasi to Oman under the bilateral trade pact and is expected to open up larger opportunities for Indian food processors in the Gulf market. Goyal said an agreement has also been signed to supply nearly 700 MT of biscuits to Oman and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries during FY 2026–27.

“For the first time, 40 MT of biscuits manufactured in Varanasi have been exported to Oman under the India-Oman CEPA, advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of taking ‘Made in India’ products to the world,” Goyal said in a post on X.

According to the minister, preferential tariff benefits available under the trade agreement have enabled duty-free access for Indian-made biscuits in Oman, making them more price-competitive against rival suppliers. The duty concessions are expected to boost export volumes and generate repeat orders from importers in the region, he said.

Goyal added that the development would provide a fillip to India’s food processing sector by supporting higher production and creating employment opportunities. The India-Oman CEPA provides preferential market access for a range of goods traded between the two countries and is aimed at boosting bilateral trade and investment.
