Marking a dip of 9 per cent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis, India’s tea production has slipped to 133.5 million kilogram (kg) in June 2025 as compared to the same month of the previous year, data from Tea Board revealed.
India had produced 146.72 million kg of tea in June 2024. The dip in the figure was attributed to unfavourable weather scenarios and pest attacks, as per the reports. The production in north India dipped to 112.51 million kg in June 2025 as compared to 121.52 million kg in June 2024.
Production in Assam, which includes Assam valley and Cachar, declined to 68.55 million kg in June 2025 from 75.91 million kg in June 2024. In West Bengal, the production slipped marginally from 41.42 million kilogram to 40.61 million kg in June 2024, the data highlighted.
On the other hand, the production in south India also came down to 20.99 million kg from 25.2 million kg in June 2025. Tamil Nadu registered a decline as the numbers came down to 16.01 million kg from 18.02 million kg. In Kerala, tea production slipped to 4.61 million kg, the Tea Board emphasised.
As far as the category-wise tea production is concerned, green tea production stood at 1.84 million kg in June 2025. Orthodox production stood at 13.82 million kg, while CTC was 117.84 million kg, data showed.
