Bata Revamps Kolkata Flagship Store, Plans 30 New Outlets In East

Bata India Faces Rs 60.56 Crore Tax Notice Over GST Discrepancies

Grand Hotel outlet expected to generate up to Rs 11 crore revenue next year

Bata India has revamped its historic Grand Hotel store in Kolkata as part of its broader premium retail expansion strategy, with the footwear major also saying they are planning to open 25–30 new outlets across East India over the next year.

The Grand Hotel outlet, Bata’s first store in India, is among the company’s top-performing locations nationally. The renovated store now includes a dedicated premium section and upgraded merchandising aimed at improving customer experience, the company said in the issued statement.

The company said the store currently generates around Rs 9 crore in annual revenue and is expected to grow to Rs 10–11 crore over the coming year.

“The Grand Hotel store revamp is part of a broader strategy to elevate our retail footprint through premium environments, sharper in-store experiences, and stronger consumer engagement. Kolkata remains a key market, with Batanagar standing as a powerful symbol of our regional legacy,” Gunjan Shah, CEO of Bata India.

Bata said Kolkata contributes nearly 50 per cent of its East India business and around 6 per cent of national turnover, making it one of the company’s most important regional markets.

The company plans to expand through both company-owned and franchise-operated formats, with a focus on West Bengal, emerging towns and hill markets in the East.

Badri Beriwal, Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Business Development Officer, Bata India, said the East remains a major growth corridor for the company and that upgraded retail formats would play a larger role in future expansion.

Bata also said its Durga Pujo 2026 collection will debut nationally in Kolkata, supported by a regional marketing campaign and advance inventory planning.
