Curated menu of sugar-free and naturally sweetened options across cities
Food delivery application Swiggy have rolled out a new ‘No Added Sugar’ category on its app, making it simpler for consumers to opt for healthier meals and beverages during the festive season. This carefully curated section features over 1.5 lakh items from more than 50,000 restaurants across ten major cities, including Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune, with plans to expand further, according to a company statement.
This follows Swiggy’s introduction of a ‘High Protein’ category in July, which currently operates across 30 cities.
The ‘No Added Sugar’ section is divided into two sub-categories: Naturally Sweetened and Not Sweetened. It showcases a variety of options such as sugar-free ice creams, cakes, pastries, traditional Indian sweets, as well as tea and coffee. The Naturally Sweetened category features items made with ingredients like dates, fruits, and purees, including Date & Nut Smoothies, Banana Pancakes, Apple Cinnamon Oats, and Fig & Almond Energy Bars. The Not Sweetened category offers beverages and juices without any added sugar, ensuring a guilt-free indulgence.
According to Swiggy, the category currently hosts over 20,000 ice creams, 12,000 juices, 10,000 hot beverages, and 7,000 cakes. Free sugars such as sucrose, jaggery, honey, and other highly processed sweeteners have been excluded in line with modern health guidelines.
Swiggy highlighted that the festive season often comes with indulgence in sweets, which can lead to concerns over added sugar. The new ‘No Added Sugar’ category is designed to provide consumers with tasty alternatives made using natural or approved low-calorie sweeteners, allowing them to enjoy festive treats without compromising on mindful eating.
Swiggy, founded in 2014, currently connects millions of users with more than 2.5 lakh restaurants across approximately 718 cities every month. Its quick commerce platform, Instamart, operates in 124 cities, offering delivery in as fast as 10 minutes.
