The new Doritos x Cinépolis Popcorn debuts on the FOOVIES platform as the cinema chain looks to strengthen its food and beverage business, which contributes nearly 30% of revenue
Cinépolis India and Doritos have partnered to launch Doritos x Cinépolis Popcorn, a co-branded snack that combines the flavour of Doritos Nachos with the cinema chain’s signature popcorn, as both companies look to tap the growing demand for premium food experiences at movie theatres.
The product, branded as ‘The Superhit Crunch’, will be available across Cinépolis cinemas in India and marks the latest addition to the exhibitor’s FOOVIES platform, which integrates food and beverage offerings into the movie-going experience.
Food Emerges as a Key Growth Driver
The launch underscores the increasing importance of food and beverage (F&B) in India’s cinema business. According to Cinépolis India, F&B now contributes nearly 30 per cent of the company’s revenue, reflecting changing consumer preferences and higher spending on in-cinema dining.
With an estimated 150 million people visiting cinemas annually in India, theatre operators are increasingly treating food as a strategic business segment rather than an ancillary service. The partnership also highlights how FMCG companies are using cinemas as a new consumer engagement channel.
FOOVIES Platform Expands Branded Offerings
The new snack has been introduced through FOOVIES, Cinépolis India’s food-focused platform that offers in-seat ordering, regional menus and limited-edition products across its cinema network.
The platform has previously featured seasonal menus and special offerings during its Blockbuster Food Festival, with the Doritos collaboration representing another step in expanding branded food partnerships.
Companies Target Shared Consumption Moments
Commenting on the launch, Devang Sampat, Managing Director, Cinépolis India, said food and beverage has become an integral part of the cinema experience, prompting consumer brands to develop products specifically for theatres.
He said the collaboration reflects the growing opportunity for FMCG brands to become part of experiences that consumers actively seek out rather than simply serving as advertising platforms.
Ankit Agarwal, Marketing Director – Doritos, PepsiCo India, said the partnership aligns with the brand’s focus on social occasions and shared experiences.
He added that combining the familiarity of popcorn with the bold flavour of Doritos Nachos creates a snacking option designed specifically for moviegoers.
Expanding Experiential Marketing
The collaboration reflects a broader trend in India’s entertainment and FMCG sectors, where brands are increasingly creating exclusive products for experiential retail environments. As cinema attendance recovers and premium formats gain traction, food innovations are becoming an important differentiator for exhibitors seeking to boost customer engagement and increase per-capita spending.
Doritos x Cinépolis Popcorn is now available across Cinépolis theatres nationwide.
