In an era of uncertainty as the new norm, Food Safety has taken a new peak altogether in the restaurant industry. This year’s theme for Food Safety-“Food safety: prepare for the unexpected”- underscores the imperative to proactively safeguard the food supply from potential hazards.

For any restaurant, the responsibility goes beyond delivering good food. This means ensuring the safety, nutrition and total compliance of all the meals being served and preparing under strict sanitary conditions. Here’s how one can implement strong food safety practices as well as embracing this year’s theme.

1. Strict Supplier Standards
The commitment to food safety starts long before the ingredients arrive at our kitchen doors. By setting up rigorous standards for the food suppliers restaurants can ensure that every item is obtained from certified, dependable sources only. Regular auditing and inspection to ascertain conformity with food safety laws and quality standards can be done as a proactive factor thus helping in reducing risks starting at the very beginning of the supply chain.

2. Comprehensive Training Programs
Food safety requires education and awareness for its success. Investing heavily on staff training about new food safety protocols is a must. Extensive training programs that cover topics like personal hygiene practices, safe food handling skills, emergency response procedures among others. By giving them this information in advance, one can create a culture of alertness and readiness in unexpected happenings.
